A packet-layer video quality assessment model with spatiotemporal complexity estimation

چکیده
A packet-layer video quality assessment (VQA) model is a lightweight model that predicts the video quality impacted by network conditions and coding configuration for application scenarios such as video system planning and in-service video quality monitoring. It is under standardization in ITU-T Study Group (SG) 12. In this article, we first differentiate the requirements for VQA model from the two application scenarios, and state the argument that the dataset for evaluating the quality monitoring model should be more challenging than that for system planning model. Correspondingly, different criteria and approaches are used for constructing the test datasets, for system planning (dataset-1) and for video quality monitoring (dataset-2), respectively. Further, we propose a novel video quality monitoring model by estimating the spatiotemporal complexity of video content. The model takes into account the interactions among content features, the error concealment effectiveness, and error propagation effects. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves robust performance improvement compared with the existing peer VQA metrics on both dataset-1 and dataset-2. It is noted that on the more challenging dataset-2 for video quality monitoring, we obtain a large increase in Pearson correlation from 0.75 to 0.92 and a decrease in the modified RMSE from 0.41 to 0.19.

Adaptive Spectral Separation Two Layer Coding with Error Concealment for Cell Loss Resilience
This paper addresses the issue of cell loss and its consequent effect on video quality in a packet video system, and examines possible compensative measures. In the system's enconder, adaptive spectral separation is used to develop a two-layer coding scheme comprising a high priority layer to carry essential video data and a low priority layer with data to enhance the video image. A two-step er...
متن کاملروشی جدید برای اختفای خطا در فریمهای ویدئو با استفاده از شبکه عصبی RBF
Transmission of compressed video over error prone channels may result in packet losses, which can degrade the image quality. Error concealment (EC) is an effective approach to reduce the degradation caused by the missed information. The conventional temporal EC techniques are always inefficient when the motions of the video object are irregular. In this paper, in order to overcome this problem,...
متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
متن کاملA Packet-Layer Model with Content Characteristics for Video Quality Assessment of IPTV
Due to the lightweight measurement and no access to the media signal, the packet-layer video quality assessment model is highly preferable and utilized in the non-intrusive and in-service network applications. In this paper, a novel packet-layer model is proposed to monitor the video quality of Internet protocol television (IPTV). Apart from predicting the coding distortion by the compres‐ sion...
